You can sign up or pledge right here, RIGHT NOW

To sign up for the 5K, on April 18, just send an email to aobringer@sf.edu. Provide your name, address, phone number and e-mail. If you are signing up for your family or a group of friends, please tells us their names so we can plan effectively.

Not a runner? No sweat! You can make a pledge right here, right now. The runners are paying about $12 each, so we're asking others who choose not to run to pledge the same amount, and just lounge on the couch or whatever -- we don't care! It's the donation that makes the difference.

To pledge $12 or whatever YOU can afford, just send an email to aobringer@sf.edu
with your name, address, phone number and e-mail. The fundraising campaign will send you an invoice. It's that simple!

So, we've made it so easy, there's no reason not to do it now. So do it now! Thank
you!!!

Why we're helping ....

Haiti is the poorest county in the western hemisphere and most of its 9 million people suffer from the staggering economy, tattered infrastructure, poor sanitation and a crippled healthcare system.

This year the country was torn by a devastating earthquake.

People typically can afford neither a doctor nor medications. The country is still reeling from a series of tremendous blows dealt by four violent hurricanes and other storms over the summer.

So many young children in this country are in need of vital nutrition because their mothers have died or are unable to nurse them. So without infant formula, they die.

It's really desperate there and it's getting worse.

Mothers, many of them young, typically realize they can't afford to care for their newborns and will abandon them. Other mothers die in childbirth or shortly thereafter due to any number of diseases. A lot of mothers are sick or are so malnourished they can't produce breast milk—their bodies are working overtime just to sustain themselves, doctors say. Therefore, infant formula, which is extremely expensive in Haiti, is critical.

And the good news is, we can do something about it – with your help. Come on, let’s get together April 18.

Join us for the 5K run; shop in the Silent Auction; or just donate a few bucks. The cost of a Starbuck coffee could help keep a vulnerable baby alive.

On April 18 at USF, we’re all going to come together to save lives. What will you be doing that day?

Encouraging Words from the Haitian Health Foundation

Exciting news! We've gotten news and encouragement from the officials at the Haitian Health Foundation, thanking all who are supporting the Formula for Life campaign! They've heard of our efforts and wrote to provide some info and encouragement.

They said,

"The formula that HHF asks for is used in our Kwashiorkor Treatment Center -- it's a Center specifically for severely malnourished children. With our charity, we definitely encourage exclusive breastfeeding to 6 months and have increased it in our area to over 70% (the national statistic in Haiti is much lower - I haven't looked lately, but when we started the breastfeeding program, it was about 3%).

When women and children come for food, HHF’s health staff also examines them for medical problems, provides de-worming medicines, iron, etc., and provides health education to the caretakers.

While breastfeeding is the preferred means of feeding babies, there are instances based on these clinical exams where it is more appropriate for a variety of reasons to provide infant formula. The formula provided to Haitian women is given in clinically appropriate circimstances -- to the very malnourished children, where it makes all the difference. Thanks so much for all you do!"

Running and Rocking for Babies in Haiti

Last year's event was a big success, with runners running, bands rocking, and the community gathered to focus on a cause that matters -- feeding starving babies in Haiti. Thanks to all the donors, auction supporters, runners and volunteers who worked together to make it all happen!

More photos, including band photos, coming soon!

Jesus will be with us April 26

Jesus will be with us in spirit on April 18 at the USF Formula for Life 5K and silent Auction. How can we be so sure?

Because whenever we, as servants of God, work in His name, He is with us.

Again, how can we be so sure?

Jesus said so, in Matthew 25:40:

“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. “All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.

“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. ‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? ‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? ‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’

“The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
